Harpoon, Sea mammal bone. XCB-105-4121. 400 BCE - 100 CE XCB-105 Adamagan (Aleut for place of walrus hunters) is located at the head of Morzhovoi Bay on the western Alaska Peninsula. This massive village featured multiple occupations when it was occupied from 400 BCE to 100 CE, making it the largest village in the Arctic with an estimated population of 1,000 people during that time. Archaeological evidence also suggests limited occupations dating back to 2,200-1,700 BCE, 1,000-600 BCE, and 900-1,100 CE. Western Alaska Peninsula artifacts are presented as a result of research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner served as the Principal Investigator for this project. The artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i scanner. Subsequent processing was performed in Geomagic or Polyworks software. High-quality texture images were generated in Geomagic Wrap, utilizing between 2 and 8 photos per artifact. Original digitizing work was completed at the IVL at Idaho State University, with subsequent processing and publication finished at Global Digital Heritage.
