The Egyptians revered the infant god Horus, representing the newborn sun, as it rose daily with the dawn. This child god caught the attention of the Greeks in Ptolemaic Alexandria, who adapted him into their own god, Harpocrates. As a deity, Harpocrates embodied hope and was also associated with secrecy and confidentiality. His name, Harpocrates, was derived from the Egyptian title Har-pa-khered or Heru-pa-khered, signifying "Horus the Child".
