These ancient ornaments were carefully placed along the noses of horses harnessed to chariots. Large face ornaments, similar to this one, adorned the horses' heads just below their ears. The 10th century BC began on the first day of 1000 BC and ended on the last day of 901 BC. Following the collapse of the Bronze Age in the Near East, the Early Iron Age took hold there. The Greek Dark Ages continued after emerging in 1200 BC. The Neo-Assyrian Empire was established towards the end of the 10th century BC. In Iron Age India, the Vedic period persisted. In China, the Zhou Dynasty held power. The European Bronze Age endured with Urnfield culture. Japan was inhabited by a developing hunter-gatherer society during the Jomon period.
