Harm Tiesing Borger

Harm Tiesing was a well-known writer, celebrated for his works in the Drents dialect of the province Drenthe in Netherlands. He lived from 1853 to 1936. Harm Tiesing (a famous Drentse writer) was born on March 13, 1853, as the son of Jan Tiesing and Aaltien Goedkoop. He grew up in poverty-stricken circumstances and had to work early as a farmhand. Later, he got his own small plot of land. On May 24, 1884, he married Aaltje Rossing in Borger. Through self-study, Tiesing developed himself. He fulfilled numerous ecclesiastical and social roles in Borger. From 1897 to 1910, he was a city council member. Politically, he initially belonged to the free-minded democrats but later switched to the old liberals of the Liberal Union.
