The series follows the titular captain, a fugitive turned space pirate after rebelling against the Earth Government and humanity's general apathy. Space Pirate Captain Harlock was adapted into an anime television series in 1978 directed by Rintaro and produced by Toei Animation. A computer-animated film adaptation of the same name was released in 2013. It's worth noting that Leiji Matsumoto only wrote 1000 pages of this comic, leaving the ending open and the story incomplete. However, he helped those behind the television adaptation to give the first series a closed ending. As a result, many other animations created based on the character were taken from explanations provided by Matsumoto himself, giving Captain Harlock even more life.
