Gas Tank Lid for Harley Tri-Glide and Similar Models The tank size is 6 gallons, so be sure to check the cowling's dimensions on various models and scale as needed. The stock Harley lid doesn't open far enough for easy fuel filling, and its chrome finish is too bright/reflective. I designed this modification a few years ago, and my prototype has been in use ever since (I made a backup but haven't used it yet). This custom lid consists of three printed parts: Lid, Rear Latch, and Bottom. The Bottom sits inside the cowling, while the Lid is glued to it, and the Rear Latch can be either screwed or glued into place. The front metal latch will fit snugly into the existing cutout in the cowling. For my original (ABS) prototype, I used a bent piece of spring wire that's still working fine after many uses. The backup version (PLA) employs a flat-spring material from a garage-door opener, which I also bent and ground to perfection. After assembly, adjust the Lid's position and shim the Rear Latch if necessary - I applied some silicone adhesive to the area for shimming purposes, and it's held up after over 500 tank fill-ups! My lid features my Wings logo, but you can add your own custom design or text as desired. You'll find the STL file posted is plain; simply print it with your chosen modifications. Print Settings: Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 20% Notes: * Three top layers and two bottom layers were printed. * Two shells were used, but I experienced some drooping filaments on the three bottom layers and separations in the two upper layers - still usable though! * A support density (spacing) of 5 was used. * Print temperature: 235°C for eSun PLA pro to ensure bonding between threads; reduce it to 232°C for other brands of PLA. For ABS, use a print temp of 255°C.
