Harddisk adapter 2.5" to 3.5"
thingiverse
This thing holds a 2.5" SATA harddisk and makes it easy to swap in for a 3.5" drive without needing any special tools or adapters. I have a harddisk dock on my office PC, and it's designed specifically for holding a 3.5" harddrive. It has a clever mechanism that doesn't require a caddy - the drive just slides right in. You can see the setup in the picture. With all the 2.5" drives hitting the market lately, I wanted to be able to use one of those with my dock too. So I took a closer look at the SATA connector on these smaller drives and compared it to the connectors on standard 3.5" drives. It turns out they're positioned in exactly the same spot - in the corner of the drive. That got me thinking: what if I could add something to the small drive to make it fit snugly into a 3.5" dock? Problem solved! The result is this clever adapter, which perfectly matches the form factor of a standard 3.5" drive - including all the screw mount holes and everything else. If your 2.5" disk happens to be a different height than mine, don't worry! I've included the openSCAD file so you can easily modify it to fit your needs.
