Hard Drive NeoPixel 3D Printed Clock
thingiverse
The drive's display shows time via NeoPixels placed directly on the drive platter area. This project centers around repurposing a discarded notebook hard drive, specifically a 2.5” model. The hard drive is integrated into a custom enclosure designed and 3D printed separately. The hard drive clock utilizes an Adafruit Metro Mini 328 controller, a ChronoDot Real Time Clock module, two NeoPixel Rings with WS2812 5050 RGB LEDs and Integrated Drivers, and two SPDT momentary rocker switches for on/off control. Additional resources, including the complete parts list and other relevant documentation, can be found at the project's end. Detailed information on 3D printing the enclosure, coding, and wiring is also provided online. A Lulzbot mini printer with HIPS filament was used to produce the clock components.
