Hansom cab model The Hansom cab model is a two-wheeled enclosed horse-drawn vehicle designed for hauling passengers at an elevated speed, which was pulled by one horse exclusively. This design is ideal for transporting one or two people on a hire basis without any luggage requirements whatsoever. Notably, the large timber-spoked wheels equipped with solid rubber tires offered enhanced comfort. In fact, these vehicles outperformed four-wheeled versions in crowded city streets. The initial Hansom cab was created in 1834 by Joseph Hansom from York, UK. As time passed, multiple variations of this design emerged and stayed on the roads worldwide until the early 1930s. People considered hansom cabs as being racy with a disreputable reputation. Traveling alone in one would be unheard of for a respectable middle-class woman. At its peak around 1900, over 7000 Hansom cabs cruised the London streets daily. A later design, based on a US patent filed by Charles Reade from Chicago, USA in 1886, included two proper doors and effectively shielded passengers from the elements completely. Dimensions for this model consist of: • Wheel diameter: 1508 mm • Overall height: 2335 mm • Overall length: 4000 mm • Track width: 1850 mm Note: The horse model provided with this project was sourced as a free bonus some time ago, and the original source cannot be recalled.
