Inventarisnummer: 10845 Description: Handle; carefully crafted artifact with a narrow, oval opening is completely unique, not only in this discovery complex, but throughout the entire European Mesolithicum. Based on its appearance and lack of wear marks, as well as some similarity to wooden handles for stone tools from Alpine Neolithic lake shore settlements, we interpret it as a handle. The artifact is complete, but it's possible that a small piece was broken off at one end. It measures 11.8 x 2.0 cm. Period: Mesolithicum Late: 5500-5300 BC Object: Heft/Handle Condition: Virtually Complete Discovery Site: Hardinxveld-Giessendam Polderweg Archol1997-1998 Source: archeologie.zuid-holland.nl Scan: Moobels.com, 2017
