Handlebar space maker
thingiverse
Anyone upgrading a standard bike to an eBike will come across an issue where they will run out of space with all the extra stuff that gets mounted to the handlebar for the eBike controls. It's a less janky solution than what I originally had in mind but also avoids the need to buy a different shifter. This mount is intended to allow you to keep the shifters close to their original positions without the shifter levers interfering with some of the new controls. Having the shifters hanging below the bars is not optimal but keeps the levers within reasonable reach. This should not be of absolute importance since gear shifting is greatly reduced with the eBike pedal assist modes, but you never know when you might need to switch the gears for a little extra help. Use a washer if all you have are counter sink/recessed screws or you'll crack it like me. An M4 Allen head cap bolt and nut is the preferred hardware. The nut and bolt allow you to tighten it enough that it won't rotate. I printed in PETG and it had enough flexibility to stretch over the bar without needing to remove the grips and brakes to install. I've included one for right and left orientation in case consistent mounting appeals to your attention to detail/OCD. They are mirrored but I am not specifying which one belongs on the left or right because it is up to your preference as the builder. The most recent revision makes the print a little stronger and allows for extra tightening around the bar to reduce the possibility of things moving around while bumping the lever to change gears. Added a longer version to provide a bit more clearance away from the handlebar in the event you need to mount something close to another part that has a thicker mounting ring and added material around the mounting hole.
