THERE IS NO LOGO OR TEXT ON THE FILES PUBLISHED! Back in the 1960s, Harley-Davidson acquired a significant share of Aermacchi's motorcycle division and contracted them to produce smaller motorcycles that would become part of the Harley-Davidson brand. One of those bikes was the M50S, a 50cc two-stroke bike manufactured from 1965-66, with approximately 9,000 units produced. Many years later, in 2012, one of these rare bikes found its way to my friend Daniel Pero, a moped enthusiast who needed it for restoration. The bike was in desperate need of renovation, but Daniel, an expert in the field, took on the challenge head-on. Years went by as Daniel worked tirelessly to restore the M50S to its former glory. However, finding spare parts proved to be a significant obstacle, requiring him to be somewhat of a detective. Even with his expertise, the badly worn handles were nowhere to be found. After exhausting all possibilities, Daniel turned to 3D printing as a potential solution. With one of the original handles in hand, recreating it using CAD software was relatively straightforward. Making some minor adjustments to accommodate the 3D printing process was also a breeze. The next step was selecting a suitable material for the print job. Since the goal was to replicate the feel of an original rubber handle, a soft "rubber-like" material was essential. NinjaFlex TPE emerged as the closest match to achieve this desired texture. After browsing through available colors, we settled on a shade called concrete that closely approximated the look and feel of the original part. With the material loaded, the file sliced, and the 3D printer ready to go, all that remained was to let it work its magic. The result exceeded our expectations, and Daniel was thrilled with the outcome. The 3D-printed handles now adorn the fully restored 1966 HD M50S. Just recently, this beautiful "moped" took center stage in Swedish Classic Bike magazine with a 10-page spread and a front-page feature! I'd like to extend my gratitude to Daniel Pero for sharing these incredible images.
