Handcycle Grips Toolkit for Quadriplegic or Paraplegic
myminifactory
Summary This set of parts can be used to convert a standard desktop pedal machine into a handcycle pedal machine. It's scalable and customizable for different pedal types. Note that you might need to edit the design itself to fit your pedals. I bought a cheap set of pedals with the right thread-pattern to fit my machine, cut off excess plastic, and tied them in with cable-ties. The kit includes a wrist-collar, two extenders (one flat, one at 15 degrees), left-hand and right-hand handles (two versions: rounded insert and square). You need to print two wrist-collars, two extenders, and one of each handle type, scaling it to your hand size. I use PLA with 30-50% infill for printing. These parts are still being tested, so I make constant changes. Check back over time or put a watch on them. There are two versions of the handles: one for rounded pedals and one for square ones. A generic version is also available. If you have finger mobility, you might not need the collar and extender; just grip the handle. For wrist support, use the Collar to allow for "pull" grip while cycling. You may need to wrap tape or cushioning around the collar and handle. The parts can be glued or screwed together once the correct configuration is found. Additional holes may need to be drilled in the exact spot they must be fixed. Pictures show a right-hand assembly with the collar, which must be scaled so that the wrist fits into the gap horizontally but can't slip out when the arm is upright. Some scaling, cutting, or sanding might be required. If you already have a handcycle with para-grips, you can still use the collar and extender for added wrist support as long as the extender can be attached to the bottom of the grips on your bike. Note that this isn't just a print-and-go process; you'll need to try different things, scale the models, and possibly cut or tinker with the pedals to get them working.
