Hand of Adam - The Creation of Man at The Musée Rodin, Paris

Rodin's incredible talent as a sculptor shines through in his ability to convey intense physical and emotional suffering in his works, particularly evident in the sculpture of Adam, which is also available on Scan the World, check it out here. According to a comprehensive study of the full piece, Rodin's hands are heavily influenced by Michelangelo's masterpieces. Two of Michelangelo's iconic works explain both the meaning and origin of the unusual poses Rodin gave Adam, as noted by Albert Elsen in the catalogue for an exhibition titled "Rodin" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The right arm alludes to the Sistine Chapel fresco "The Creation of Man," while the left is borrowed from Michelangelo's dead Christ sculpture in the Cathedral of Florence. Elsen further observed, "the figure is framed by life and death, his body displays a tortured existence." This object is part of the Scan The World initiative, a non-profit project launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access.
