Hand Grenade Model (Remix)
thingiverse
Sterling500's Hand Grenade Model (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:335723) is an extremely close replica to the WWII Era MK2 grenade, but I made a few tweaks to make it even more authentic. The original model's handle was not secured by the pin like the actual handle on the MK 2, so I redesigned both the top and handle to incorporate a pin. While making these changes, I moved the pin location to the side of the top where it is located on the actual MK 2 grenade. I also shifted the hole for the spring and added a post inside the hole. When printed at 50% size, this combination works perfectly with the spring from a "clicky" pen, although I had to cut my spring in half. I created a new pin as well, but it broke on me eventually. Instead, I took a piece of filament (1.75mm) and heated it up to bend it into shape. The pin part is doubled over and rolled while warm between my fingers to get the right shape. It functions pretty well. The ring from my thing was used, although it should be larger. It's worth noting that in the actual MK 2 grenade, the handle wasn't attached to the top with a pin like this model has it; instead, it used a curled tip that went over the tip and would fly off when tossed. Nevertheless, this model is still an extremely close replica. I added a "gasket" that goes between the grenade and the head. It's printed in red in my photo. I also swapped filament near the top of the body to simulate the yellow stripe often painted at the top of these style grenades. Please note that in some areas, it may be almost illegal to own a replica grenade. Even one that is a replica of one that hasn't been used by the military since 1969. As such, I would advise against printing one of these and tossing it at the police.
