Hand Cranked Vinyl Player
thingiverse
When I caught sight of the Ghostly Vinyl contest, I immediately felt a strong urge to bring a functioning record player into existence. This is a printable hand-cranked record player specifically designed for vinyl discs. Every piece of this record player has been neatly aligned and crafted to fit inside a 15x15x15cm cube, printing perfectly on the Replicator 2 without any rafting or supports getting in the way. Once all the pieces are printed, they come together in about 5 minutes flat, then you simply add a little bit of glue to make sure everything stays securely in place as it spins around. To complete the project, you will only need to attach a piece of paper, some sticky tape, and a needle for the amplifier, plus a little more glue for good measure. For the deluxe edition, you can also get your hands on some tiny felt squares and glue them down onto the square top, which reduces friction noise and scratching (though the turntable is intentionally lifted off the plate). This device will play all sorts of records as it's adjustable, though 78rpm records are highly recommended, since trying to crank at slower speeds proves rather difficult - everything sounds extremely high-pitched. Check out an assembly video here that demonstrates how to assemble it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN6O0KbCnPk And take a look at a very rough demo I uploaded online (the STL files available will generate a much better crank than what I've got on my test print): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDpHbkgdF14 Version 2 is already in the works and expected to be ready before January 20th! It boasts significantly clearer sound quality and an easier turning mechanism. Here's a video showcasing it from an interview I did with a local newspaper: http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/gadgets/64155549/kiwis-3dprinted-record-player-a-worldwide-hit.html Enjoy using your new 3D-printed record player!
