The new Star Wars Battlefront game is finally here, and guess what? AMD just dropped a CAD file for my Radeon Fury X faceplate - can't wait to see it come together! Print Settings Printer Brand: Printer Model: Printer settings were tweaked a bit, but it all worked out. The Solidoodle was the perfect tool for this job. I was using Press mode with Rafts set at zero - no need for those when printing something that's going to be attached like this cover. And as for Supports? Forget about it! I knew exactly how they would behave on the design, so that one went straight out too. As far as Resolution goes, a precise 0.2 was what made all the difference here. The Infill of my Solidoodle is always running at a high pace when creating detailed objects, and 40% is always the number I stick to when working with complicated prints like this one. Notes: Working with ABS proved to be problematic, especially in areas that would take the print head back for an extended amount of time. A bit of extra airflow should fix it. I made sure not to include a Raft or a Brim as both would create more complications due to my already-complex cover being one large "Brim". On top of all this, tweaking the Infill settings gave me solid results, resulting in an entire body of parts free of tiny gaps on that big chest plate. Post-Printing The finish I received after the first print was spot-on - except for its slightly smaller dimensions than initially predicted. Guess we can attribute those 1 millimeter of variance to not needing any precise trim at the end, right? Working out all the design bugs really paid off. That 3D STL from AMD did indeed have quite a few imperfections, specifically bumps beneath the screws which also featured those awkward "Reliefs". These would turn up being major pains in my world - I ended up flatting it into two-dimensional space using OpenSCAD. All the parts looked a lot neater and cleaner when viewed that way, allowing me to then add some finishing touches without any more complications. To make matters simpler still (yet not sacrificing overall print quality at all), each one of these separate models needed just an extra boost to height, making sure every component matched exactly up.
