Hammock Suspension Top Rail End Cap
thingiverse
This cap fits a standard 1-3/8" Chain Link Fence Top Rail perfectly. I designed this cap to support my hammock between two DIY tripods, eliminating the need for trees. A top rail is required to keep the tripods from collapsing inward when weight is added to the hammock. The cap is specifically engineered for use with 7/64" Amsteel. I created a 19" dog bone by weaving it through the end cap. One loop (marked on the end cap) attaches to the tripod, while the other loop coming out of the opposite hole connects to my hammock. Two pins prevent the Amsteel from cutting through the plastic material. After experimenting with various options without pins, I found that they all failed due to the 7/64" Amsteel easily cutting into the plastic under a load of 200 lbs (100 lbs per side). However, with the addition of brass pins (1/8"x1"), the weight is distributed across the pin's length rather than just 7/64" of the Amsteel. I've tested these caps with up to 350 lbs, exceeding my hammock's maximum acceptable weight limit of 200 lbs. To ensure a secure fit and accommodate variations in pole diameter, I'm using a 1"x1/8 rubber o-ring.
