Halogen Lamp Near/Shortwave Infrared Source

A three part box to house a 12V, 10W Halogen lamp, a reflector, and a filter. With an appropriate filter, this gives you a reasonably powerful indoor light source in your selected spectral band (filtering the broadband Tungsten Halogen source) that's compact (~80mm cube) and has enough ventilation to not melt itself under normal operating conditions. The box is a press fit assembly with a couple of bolts at the bottom to clamp the wires that hold the lamp in place, there is a standard 1/4 inch 20 TPI threaded camera mount on the bottom for mounting. The pictured boxes are setup with a 2800k lamp (lower color temperature means more of the output is below the visible spectrum) and a Schott RG1000 filter in the front. Using filaments other than black may be transparent in some spectral bands, but in my experience the pigments in black filament will block all bands well enough to be used as a filtered directional source. Front optical filter size is 50x50x2.5mm or thereabouts (standard 2" square fits fine)
