The Type-52 Mauler is wielded by the Jiralhanae as a pistol, yet human military analysts have classified it more accurately as a handheld shotgun. The magazine carries 5 metal bolts measuring 7.9mm in diameter, which are kept at scorching temperatures prior to discharge. These bolts appear to shatter upon ejection from the gun, generating a scatter-shot effect akin to that of human shotguns. Like all Jiralhanae arms, the Mauler features a compact blade beneath its surface, rendering it a potent close-quarters combat tool. The Mauler made its first appearance during the Battle of Gbraakon on Doisac, shortly after the Jiralhanae's global conflict. Following that engagement, it became the primary sidearm for Jiralhanae security personnel, and would not be encountered by humans until the Battle of Earth.
