A budget HALL OMNIDIRECTIONAL magnetic endstop is available for under $2, using only two components. The recommended switch is the Honeywell SS451A, which doesn't require precise magnet orientation and operates on a 3-24V supply. A 10k pull-up resistor is the additional part needed, as per the manufacturer's instructions. DigiKey part number 480-3587-ND offers these components at US $1.92/piece or 10 for US $11.87 (US $1.18/piece). For optimal performance, use a small magnet to minimize hysteresis effects. The provided photos can give you an idea of the appropriate size. Remember to invert the AXIS logic in Marlin with RAMPS configuration file; add line 233 "const bool Z_ENDSTOPS_INVERTING = true;" for Z stop, etc. A PCB would break the budget, but you can include an LED between V+ and out pins with a 250ohm limiting resistor if desired.
