Halloween Crow with illuminated eyes
thingiverse
Imported all components into FreeCAD and transformed mesh of head and tail into solids to enable further editing. Head received holes for LEDs, while tail got a slot for inserting the solar cell. When printed at 43% scale, eyes fit perfectly for 5mm LEDs and tail accommodates a solar cell measuring 22mm x 56mm x 3mm. The entire crow measures 20cm from head to tail. Cut parts are best printed without top and bottom layers and with concentric infill. Infill can be removed using sharp pliers to create space for electronics and cables. Switch and charger sockets are located behind the legs. I didn't prepare holes in the body part initially, so I cut them afterwards. The electronic components were taken from an inexpensive lamp featuring a solar cell, battery, switch, and USB charger. The original white LED was replaced with two ultrabright red LEDs. The original 50-ohm LED resistor was changed to 150 ohms for longer lifespan. All credit goes to Danman at http://www.thingiverse.com/danman/designs for the outstanding model. Thanks! If it weren't already cut into four body parts, I'd have used https://github.com/fablabnbg/tinyboy/blob/master/stlcut.py for this.
