The ancient ground-floor gothic house, a historic meeting spot for the city council since the 14th century, underwent a major overhaul in 1488 with an added second story. A stunning chapel rose to prominence early in the 16th century before being demolished in the 18th century. The once sacred site gave way to a poignant sculpture of the Virgin Mary that stands tall today. By 1787-1788, the hall finally achieved its present majestic form. Eye-catching baroque frescoes on the ceiling signify justice, dominating the interior. A stark contrast is found beneath, where the town prison was once located. Breathtaking ō sights abound at the Å¥town hall', which connects via two impressive structures - the clock tower and entrance plaza from behind.
