Half Octahedron, Make Your Own
thingiverse
Half Octahedron Things get fascinating and often puzzling in three-dimensional space. How do you break down a platonic (regular) octahedron? Of course, we could cut it into two square pyramids. But that's a bit dull. Here is a more intriguing way to dissect it into two congruent pieces. It's easy to design in Fusion 360 using its dihedral angle [180 - arccos(1/3)]. The simplest way to design a platonic octahedron is to extrude a square in two directions at a taper angle of (-acos(1/3)/2). We could also start with an equilateral triangle and then extrude and mirror around. It's a fun process. There are two versions provided: solids and shelled (2mm). The eighth pieces are included.
