HAL brain-key

A key is used by astronaut Bowman to disable HAL in the Brainroom scene of 2001, where the clear acrylic blocks spring up with a specific small key. Unfortunately, you'll need to supply your own key until I have access to the work computer and can design a custom key shaft to match. This particular type of key is similar to those used on Burg Wächter model E7/3. For more information about prop-making and replicating this scene's details, visit therpf.com, specifically this discussion thread: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=135843&highlight=2001+odyssey Printer Settings - Printer Brand: MakerBot - Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 - Rafts: Yes - Supports: Yes - Resolution: Use 0.2mm for the best results. - Infill: Use 15% for this print. Notes: To achieve a smooth and even finish, print the key vertically on its back end with the hole at the top. This method minimizes any steps or misaligned features that could form during printing on angled surfaces. Post-Printing: Test your prints in PLA since our ABS printer is currently out of order. Keep in mind that printing in ABS would provide better results and enable the use of acetone vapour before giving it a silver finish, as if it were chromed or polished metal.
