HAL 9000 - Brain Key
thingiverse
I'm working on a rendition of the iconic HAL 9000 memory deactivation key from the film 2001, and I wanted to create something that accurately captured the essence of this legendary piece of hardware. To get it right, I studied some screen grabs of the original key, and one thing became clear: the base of the key is unmistakably square in shape. Determined to do justice to this design classic, I set out to print a new version using PETG, a material that would allow me to achieve a high level of detail. After printing, I sanded down the model to smooth out any rough edges and give it a professional finish. To add an extra layer of realism, I decided to apply a Molotow Chrome spray coating to the key, which not only made it look sleek but also helped bring out the intricate details. While the actual key in the picture is a genuine item from a German keymaker, I've also shared my own STL file on Thingiverse so that others can print their own HAL 9000 memory deactivation key: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3204321
