Haku: Modified lung oriental dragon with hollow body for wire/elastic stringing
thingiverse
I'm crafting a Lung Oriental Dragon, inspired by Haku's dragon form from Spirited Away. The spinal fur will be attached separately. Check out more pics here: https://www.instagram.com/saisaillias/ The ears have been added (Gunnar86), the nose modified (Tioh), and bushy eyebrows removed. Whisker holes are designed to fit PLA filament, allowing for customization of shape and length. The tail has been altered (7Fish's sea serpent) into a flame shape, giving it an east Asian dragon look. All body segments have been hollowed out, with horizontal bars on segments 1 and 45 to hook elastic or wire inside for better posing. Note that I haven't printed the hollow body pieces yet, so I'm unsure how well they'll assemble. However, if I were to print again, these would be my go-to choice. The original model from 7Fish made for a rather floppy dragon, and printing without modifications resulted in poor poses. I encountered significant difficulty printing the claw joints, but eventually opted for bead joints instead, allowing a wire to pass through and be glued to the claw hub and nail tip sides. This enabled me to create a more stable design. The nail tips are tilted back slightly, accommodating paused prints and filament changes to achieve different nail colors. My edited head and tail meshes may appear messy, but they printed well on the dremel slicer. Assembly was relatively straightforward – I used a hot water bath to heat up the female ends, making it easy to assemble the pieces without much force. Faux fur was applied using hot glue to each segment. The pictures feature 8mm glass eyes.
