The distinctive mon crest employed by practitioners of Hakkoryu originates from a retainer of the Minamoto clan, known as Meyui, which translates to tie-dying. The unique style of this crest is specifically called Yotsume, or "four eyes." This symbol holds significant meaning for the Okuyama family's ancestral heritage. However, its geometric composition of eight interconnected squares directly relates to Hakkoryu's numeric principle of eight, while the four eyes signify readiness to defend against threats from all angles. A prevailing superstition surrounds Yotsume, as the "four eyes" are believed to ward off malevolent forces. This concept has been extended to encompass personal protection, much like Hakkoryu itself.
