Hairy Cousin It

Inspired by Primož's Hairy Lion on Thingiverse, I decided to take on the challenge of creating a 3D printable Cousin-It from The Addams Family. This model was printed with a layer height of 0.2 mm and a nozzle size of 0.4 mm at 10% infill without supports on the main body. For best results, print the glasses with the small posts facing down using supports. Print the hat with the square front part facing up with supports as well. I made the mistake of printing it with the top of the hat down initially, which made removing the supports from the small hole in the square a nightmare. The most difficult part of this process is cutting the hairs without breaking them off the model. I recommend using a blade with a wider width and cutting only a few layers at a time to minimize breakage. ABS might be a better choice than PLA when it comes to handling the fragile hairs. To shape the hairs, place the model in a sink and pour hot water over the main body while wearing an oven mitt to protect your hands. Use needle-nose pliers to shape the hairs around the eye holes for the glasses, taking care not to deform the base too much as it may be prone to warping with PLA. To ensure the glasses stay in place once the body has dried, apply a small amount of super glue. I've included the FreeCAD file so you can modify and experiment with the design if you'd like. I'm currently exploring the idea of creating a 3D printable Captain Caveman model as well. If you're interested in 3D printing, check out my website at phelps3d.co.
