Hairy Cousin It

Inspired by the Hairy Lion by primoz on thingiverse.com/thing:2007221, I decided to try making a hairy 3D printable Cousin-It from The Addams Family myself. This model is printed with a 0.2 mm layer height and a 0.4 mm nozzle at 10% infill, with no supports on the main body. I recommend printing the glasses with the small posts facing down using supports. Printing the hat requires supports as well, ideally with the square front part facing up. Initially, I printed the hat with the top facing down and supported, but trying to remove it from the small hole in the square was a challenge. The most difficult part of this process is cutting the hairs without breaking them off. To avoid breakage, I suggest using a blade with a wider width than the one used here, and try cutting only a few layers at a time. ABS might be more suitable for printing the model than PLA when it comes to breaking off the hairs. Cutting all of the hairs away from the disposable cylinder that surrounds the model is essential. Next, I placed the model in my sink and boiled some water in a kettle. Then, I poured hot water over the main body using an oven mitt to shape the hairs. I repeated this process but used needle nose pliers to shape the hairs around the eye holes so the glasses could be inserted into them. Be cautious not to deform the base too much as it might warp due to its thinness, especially when printing with PLA. Using super glue ensures that the glasses stay in place after the body has dried completely. The FreeCAD file is included for anyone who wants to figure out how the hairs were created and modify it if desired. I'm also considering creating a 3D printable Captain Caveman model but no promises yet. For those interested in 3D printing, please visit my website at phelps3d.co.
