Hafted Tool Fragment XCB-003-163 is a significant find from the Izembek Phase site tested by A.P. McCartney in 1971. The site, designated as XCB-003 or IZM-003, features a distinctive whalebone house and numerous artifacts similar to those discovered in the Bristol Bay region. Dating back to approximately 1200-1350 CE, these findings provide valuable insights into Western Alaska Peninsula's prehistoric past. The research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411 by H. Maschner, Principal Investigator, has led to the presentation of these artifacts. The digitizing process involved scanning with either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i, followed by processing in Geomagic or Polyworks. Additionally, 2-8 photos were used for texture enhancement in Geomagic Wrap. The original digitizing work was carried out at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing and publication were completed at Global Digital Heritage. McCartney's research is documented in his 1974 paper "Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula," published in APUA 16(1):59-84. Meanwhile, H. Maschner's findings are featured in Arctic Anthro. (January 1, 2004 vol. 41 no. 2), with a DOI of 10.1353/arc.2011.0007.
