Hafted Knife XCB-003-213 XCB-003, or IZM-003, is a site extensively tested by renowned archaeologist A.P. McCartney in 1971. It serves as the definitive type-site for the Izembek Phase. A small village with a unique whalebone house and numerous artifacts identical to those discovered in the Bristol Bay region reveals its distinct character. This remarkable site dates approximately 1200-1350 CE. The Western Alaska Peninsula artifacts are presented as a direct result of groundbreaking research conducted under prestigious grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner, the Principal Investigator, spearheaded this monumental effort. These artifacts were meticulously scanned with either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Expertly processed in Geomagic or Polyworks, 2-8 photos were carefully selected for texture enhancement in Geomagic Wrap. The original digitizing work was conducted at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing and publication were completed at Global Digital Heritage. McCartney's seminal study, "Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula," was published in APUA 16(1):59-84 in 1974. Maschner's groundbreaking research is documented in Arctic Anthro. January 1, 2004 vol. 41 no. 2 98-111.
