Hafez
thingiverse
Hafız was a Persian poet who passionately extolled the pleasures of love and wine, but he also relentlessly targeted the hypocrisy of religious authorities. His entire collection of works is regarded as a towering masterpiece of Persian literature, found in almost every home throughout Iran, where his poems are meticulously memorized by heart and utilized as proverbs and maxims that still widely influence daily life today. Extensive analysis, commentaries, and interpretations have surrounded his life and poems for centuries, profoundly impacting the style of post-fourteenth-century Persian writers more than any other literary figure. Hafız is undisputedly the most popular poet in Iran, with his works easily accessible in virtually every Iranian household. October 12th is notably celebrated as Hafız Day throughout Iran. The magnificent Tomb of Hafız is situated in Shiraz. Twenty years following his passing, a stately mausoleum known as the Hafezieh was erected in his honor within the scenic Musalla Gardens in Shiraz to pay homage to the illustrious poet. Conceived by French archeologist and renowned architect André Godard during the late 1930s, this stunning edifice serves as the final resting place of Hafız's alabaster sarcophagus upon which are engraved two poignant passages from his masterworks. Thousands throng his tomb "crowded with devotees" yearning to visit this sacred site and pay their respects. Visitors can be seen walking about "festively", with individuals often found reciting and singing out favorite verses penned by Hafız, the celebratory atmosphere electrically alive. Come, beautiful server of wine, pour forth the cup that my lips might partake! At first, I found love's path smooth, only to soon realize numerous challenges lay in wait. Oh! Morning breeze, fragrant as incense, frees me from the fetters bound so intricately upon my heart A delicate cascade of dark locks can leave many a soul utterly devastated and shattered into shards. Within the halls of my Beloved, how can I possibly partake of life's joys when, with every bell tolled by sacred call? Do adorn thy garments with that hue so rich in beauty – reminiscent of days of ancient Magus wisdom Listen to these seasoned words, gleaned from one well-traveled who traverses the paths unknown. How can the one whose presence is ever elusive possibly grasp the extent of my trials and sufferings, knowing he is safely moored within calm harbors, while unbridled turmoil rages outside? I chose to tread a solitary path, beset with difficulties; now I'm tainted by suspicion in the eyes of many How can any secret be concealed from public scrutiny when all tongues continue to spill its every detail? Seek out Hafız, but don't succumb to blind fancy. (Hafız)
