Originally designed for Amazon's octave filament spools, this 3D-printed filament holder can accommodate a variety of other spool types as well, including those sold by Automation Technologies. It works in conjunction with the filament guide, which features a "NO GRAB" text recessed into it to prevent users from lifting the printer by mistake. The filament hub is mounted on the filament bracket using a 1/4-20 hex bolt (4 inches long) and blue loctite to prevent loosening. The nut and hub are joined with a bayonet-style feature, ensuring that the nut stays in place without rattling off, even when holding a full 1 kg filament spool. The bracket is secured using four M5x12 cap screws and has 1/4-20 threads in the base to mate with the hex bolt threads. To install, thread the filament through the filament guide's slot and then bring it to the front through the 45-degree hole. While the assembly process may seem complex, this design is an improvement over previous iterations that struggled with unconstrained filament spools during long prints. Simply print the bracket, hub, nut, and filament guide without support, using Slic3r 0910b with a 70% infill and 2.5 mm rectilinear grid support for optimal results.
