Hadrian was a renowned Roman Emperor who ruled from 117 until his demise in 138. He zealously pursued his personal ambitions and Imperial ideals by energetically visiting nearly every province within the Empire, accompanied by an Imperial retinue of experts and administrators. His focus on military preparedness and discipline led to significant advancements, while he also supported and funded various civil and religious institutions and construction projects. Hadrian was deeply fascinated with Greek culture and envisioned Athens as the cultural hub of the Empire, resulting in the construction of numerous lavish temples throughout the city. The tragic death of his beloved companion Antinous, a young Greek man, prompted Hadrian to establish a widespread cult late in his reign. In this iconic bust, the Emperor's portrait is prominently displayed within a chlamys-adorned frame.
