Hadrian
myminifactory
The Roman Emperor Hadrian reigned from 117 AD to 138 AD. We recognize this sculpture as a likeness of Hadrian through his distinctive beard and facial features. The breastplate he wears boasts lion heads on its shoulders, an emblem often associated with strength. Known for being the Emperor of Culture over War, Hadrian led with stability and avoided conflict, devoting his energy to enhancing the administration of the Roman Empire and maintaining discipline in the army. He relinquished control of the eastern territories of Armenia and Mesopotamia, which had been conquered by his predecessor Trajan, restricting the empire's borders to the Euphrates River. During an extensive tour of his territories, Hadrian personally inspected the army, leading to the construction of the Hadrian Wall in Britain as a direct result of one such visit. His architectural legacy includes the Pantheon in Rome and the Imperial Villa at Tivoli.
