Hadley 1.25" Focuser Options
prusaprinters
IntroductionA selection of remixed focuser options for Hadley, all designed from scratch with 45deg threads and 3mm pitch for vastly improved printability and operation. Mostly remixes of Hadley focusers that are out there in the wild, but with more options (e.g. different handwheel options), better operation (because of the 45deg threads) and more specificity (different tolerance options to suit your printer and setup).Native CAD is avaialble for all of these models in the linked OnShape model. The model takes a little while to load and re-build because of the knurling features, but you can just delete or supress these from your copy when you dont need them.N.B. These files have been tested by a few people and the model seems to be working well. If you have any issues please message me and I can make updates or create additional options pretty quickly.N.B. Rubbing a candle or some wax onto tight threads goes a HUGE way into improving the operation whilst maintaining a tight tolerance. If the threads start but are a little stiff, try it out!Current focuser optionsNon-rotating focuserRemix of the amazing original design (which includes a handy assembly video), with updated tolerances to remove some of the slop, 45 degree threads for better printing and smoother operation, and 3mm pitch for finer focusing control.A different collet design is included to more closely match a typical ER-collet: longer taper and zig-zag slots for concentric operation over the whole grip surface; collet interfaces with the nut for easier eyepiece changes (aka, the collet doesn't get stuck on the taper). Also included are three handwheel options: the original grooved version, the handwheel option, and a very ergonomically pleasing knurled version. The base is available for both metric (M4) and imperial (#10-24) hardware. The nuts are available with a variety of thread tolerance options (the smaller the number, the tighter the threads). I recommend starting with the 0.2mm clearance version: print a nut, check the fit against the drawtube, and re-print with a different tolerance if requiredFiles for the different tolerance options be added as requested, currently 0.2mm and 0.3mm clearance versions are availablePrintingYou will need all of the main components with the relevant base (metric or imperial)You will need one nut and one collet nut (with the grip type of your choice for each). The pictures with this post show one version with the collet nuts for both; and one version with the handwheel main nut and grooved collet nut.The lock-nut is optional, if you threads are tight then it is not really needed, but if you need to completely lock-in the focus (for astro-photography for example) then it might be helpfulHelical focuser (files coming soon)Remix of the helical focuser that shipped with Hadley, updated with 45 degree threads for better printing and smoother action, and 3mm pitch for finer focusing control.Helical focuser with collet (files coming soon)The original helical focuser but with a collet for securing the eyepiece, instead of the three screws, to aid concentricity and help to counter tilt.
