H0 european steel mill scrap cars
thingiverse
Something not exactly glamourous this time: scrap cars! These somewhat boring boxes on wheels may not be the most inspiring vehicles at a steel mill, but just imagine how you can go to town on the weathering! Also, add some variety: here are several different bodies and different bogies, it all fits together, just mix and match as you please. Some of these cars were entirely purpose built, but many just used old bogies taken from outdated mainline ore cars or even steam locomotive tender bogiesprinting: I print the body upside down, to avoid suction and all top surfaces are easy to clean up. Assembly is pretty straightforward: use some M2 bolts to fix the bogies to the body, use the NEM coupler pocket for fixed couplers or glue some symoba coupler mechanisms to the body, grab some wheelsets from the spares box (I use 10.5mm diameter wheels on 24.5mm point bearing axles, but results may vary depending on the tolerances of your printer), add some buffers and if you want drill some holes and add some metal wire handrails and steps. I ignored those in the design as they would immediately snap off anyway. See picture.Inspirational prototype pics: http://wagons-europe.net/index?/category/757-04_chertal_arcelor/start-210I designed these cars after belgian prototypes, combinations of body and bogies I found pictures of, for those who want to keep everything prototypical:body 1 bogie 1: cockerill seraing, ESB seraing, chertalbody 1 bogie 2: cockerill seraing, ESB seraing , chertalbody 1 bogie 4: marchiennebody 2 bogie 3: chertalbody 3 bogie 3: chertalbody 4 bogie 3: marcinelle, ESB seraingbody 5 bogie 2: chertalhave fun!cheers,FlorisPS: when you build these things posting a make would be appreciated!
