Güiro - Proyecto Arqueológico Haciendas de Nasca
sketchfab
This güiro is a gourd rasping instrument from the archaeological site of the Hacienda San Joseph de la Nasca, a former Jesuit vineyard in Nasca, Peru. It would be played by rasping a stick along the perforations. The object was shaped to resemble a whale by an enslaved African descended person in the 18th century, who lived and worked on this estate. Artifacts like this güiro help archaeologists to understand daily life among enslaved people who used music in labor, ritual, and domestic life.
