The German Term Lorchel Originates from the 18th Century Low German Lorken, Which Aligns with the Similar-Sounding (and Similar-Looking) Morchel. Other Names Include: Frühjahrs-Giftlorchel, Frühjahrslorchel, Frühlorchel, Giftlorchel, Hongo Bonete, Falsa Colmenilla, Gyromitra Esculenta, Faussse Morille, Gyromitre Faussse Morille, Bobausis. Its Cap Has a Shape Resembling a Brain or Greek Nut and Can Be Up to 20cm in Size. This Particular Specimen Was Around 8-10cm in Diameter. The Mushroom Contains Some Poison but Is Edible After Boiling Three Times. It Has a Slightly Crunchy Texture Compared to Other Mushrooms. Some People Also Dry Its Cap for Later Use. The Fungus Grows in Europe and North America, Preferring Sandy Soil. While It's Considered Edible with Specific Preparations in Some Countries, It's Regarded as Poisonous in Others. The Fungus Was First Classified in 1800 by Mycologist Christian Hendrik Persoon as Helvella Esculenta, Later Receiving Its Current Binomial Name from Swedish Mycologist Elias Magnus Fries in 1849.
