Gypsum wall panel, Nimrud (lower part)
sketchfab
Gypsum wall panel relief showcases a series of disconnected scenes on one wall panel. Above this panel lies part of a fierce battle, while below it stands the royal chariot patiently waiting behind Tiglath-pileser III, who is prominently displayed on another panel. Two columns of inscription are carved along the band at the bottom of the upper fragment. When combined with BM. 132306, the complete scene unfolds to reveal the king's chariot majestically advancing forward. At its helm stands a skilled charioteer firmly grasping the reins and a whip. The horses, adorned with elaborate decorations on their trappings, are carefully led by two bearded men clad in a fringed tunic and a belt housing a sword at the ready. In front of them, a beardless officer proudly carries the king's arsenal: a bow shaped like a duck's head, a quiver, and a mace. Dating back to 728 BC, this remarkable find was discovered within the palace walls of Nimrud. The wall panel measures 233 centimeters in height and 232 centimeters in width.
