Gundog Heeling Collar/Lead
thingiverse
A heeling lead is a short slip lead that you can hang onto to keep your dog steady and close; simply release it when the dog is sent without trailing a long cord or lead behind it. A heeling lead costs £8.50 at most local stores, but as all intrepid designers we strive to not spend money when we can avoid it. I bought 5 meters of 4mm flexible nylon climbing rope for £4.80 from my local outdoor shop and designed these simple components in Fusion360. The pulley is the eye guard that prevents the rope from wearing out over time. The stopper keeps the lead in place around the dog's neck. The toggle makes it easier to grasp the end of the lead. Each lead requires about 70cm of rope, adjusted to your preference. Print flat with no support. Use PLA/PET/ABS for the pulley and TPU for the other two components. The rope needs to be melted to a thinner radius for about 10mm at the threading end to make the stopper fit snugly on the rope. Happy training.
