Guillermo Sureda Arbelo was born in Arucas, Spain in 1912 and passed away in Miami, Florida in 2006. At the age of 14, he moved to Tenerife where he studied at the School of Arts and Crafts. Guillermo Sureda has made a name for himself in the world of painting by mastering the use of watercolors, achieving perfection in this technique that earned him international recognition. Throughout his life, he represented countless landscapes and urban scenes from various parts of the globe (London, Venezuela, Puerto Rico...), never forgetting his native land. He is also notable for the strength of his portraits, generally featuring anonymous characters from everyday people. This choice leads him to depict with great care and attention the humble and sincere expressions of his models, their traditional clothing and customs. The bronze bust is a work by artist Jose Luis Marrero Cabrera of Arucas.
