This sculpture is most likely a representation of Kertolo, an ardent devotee of Panji, a gallant prince from a series of enchanting stories that were deeply ingrained in the cultural heritage of the Majapahit era. These captivating tales were richly depicted in various art forms and mediums, showcasing their immense popularity. The distinctive handlebar moustache and intricate hairstyle with curly locks tied back by a ribbon also reappear in later shadow puppetry performances (wayang purwa).
