After thousands of years, Guanyin transformed into a female figure in Chinese Buddhism and a goddess in popular religion. In Taiwan, Guanyin is the most revered goddess. She's also known as Guanshiyin (Observer of the World's Sound), Guanzizai (Self-Existing Observer), Nanhai gufo (Ancient Buddha of the Southern Sea), Guanyin dashi (Ancient Buddha of Mercy), Yuantong jiaozhu (Master of the Round and Universal Teachings), and Guanyin fozu (Buddha Ancestor).
