Production deliveries were slated to start in 2004, but multiple design changes combined with significant political issues delayed production until 2008, and the very first production example was handed over to the German Army on September 24, 2009. Before production deliveries even began, the twelve prototypes underwent rigorous testing (more than ninety thousand kilometers) through reliability trials and endurance trials (more than ninety thousand kilometers) spanning a seven-year period.[1]\n\nThe Netherlands officially confirmed its procurement of two hundred Boxer vehicles in autumn of 2006, with these replacements slated to be used by the M577 and YPR-765 support variants within the Royal Netherlands Army. Deliveries started taking place between 2013 and 2018, with the new vehicles coming directly from the production line in the Netherlands. Within the RNLA, the baseline Boxer model is known as the Pantser Wiel Voertuig (PWV).\n\nOn December 13, 2006, the German parliament gave its official approval to procure two hundred and seventy-two Boxers for use by the German Army,[5] these replacements intended to serve in place of some of its M113 and Fuchs TPz 1 vehicles.[6] By September 2011, six German Army Boxer units had been upgraded to the enhanced Boxer A1 standard. Starting from German Army Boxer No 41, all vehicles were built according to this new A1 standard.\n\nIn December 2015, Germany announced it was awarding a contract for an additional one hundred thirty-one Boxer worth four hundred seventy-six million euros.
