Gryphon: MRDT 2017 World Champion Rover
thingiverse
This is a scaled down model of the University Rover Challenge 2017 world champion rover: Gryphon, by the Missouri University of Science and Technology Mars Rover Design Team. Check out MRDT's website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc., for information about Gryphon and the new 2018 rover, Atlas. Much of Gryphon's success can be attributed to its revolutionary Mantis suspension, which allowed it to roll over boulders and ditches without pause. Granted, the dual action gas springs aren't possible in printed plastic at this scale, but elastic does well for a model on my desk. Some files require support material, and I've included two files for those. One is the simple part, and the other includes support material I've added. I plan to make the robotic arm at some point as well. I'm still unsure about populating the interior of the rover, as there are a lot of boards and bits in there. I did the power box and battery pack, but as the Power Systems lead for 2017, I am biased. There will be an assembly guide at some point, but it may take a while. You can always look at pictures of the real thing. Honestly, most of you who are interested in printing this are MRDT members or alumni, so you should be familiar with how it goes together. If you have questions, ask me. Part quantities and notes: Frame: 1 Back, middle, and front covers: 3 Wheel: 6 - There is a cup inside the wheel that slots over the "motor" part of the A and B links, be careful not to remove this while removing support material, or the wheel wobbles a lot. A link: 4 B link 1: 2 B link 2: 2 C link: 4 - The fancy CNC work on these is so iconic I thought it should be kept in. Suspension Axis: 2. I find it helpful to scale these along Y by 2, then trim them as needed, depending on how well your C links fit.
