Grundfos Challenge

The objective revolves around crafting a gear unit for a hydronic valve, focusing specifically on the design and development of this component. This particular design integrates a compound planetary gear setup, engineered to achieve almost zero backlash. The efficiency losses are minimized, falling below 15%. Moreover, the mechanism exhibits very low friction and near-zero maintenance requirements over its lifespan. The enclosure's design facilitates easy mould release, devoid of thin-walled protrusions or supports. As a result, the full torque can be effectively transferred by the enclosure itself, thanks to the studs I've added to the front that embed into the Red enclosure. This setup is further reinforced by bolting the gear set enclosure to the Red enclosure. The assembly process unfolds from the bottom upwards, commencing with the motor and proceeding in layers. The compound gear ratio stands at 452:1, while the spur gears exhibit a ratio of 2:1. Consequently, the total gear ratio reaches an impressive 954:1.
