The OV-1D Mohawk, a twin turboprop high wing configuration aircraft, was developed by Grumman for the US Army as an armed observation plane. With two crew members seated side by side in a cockpit featuring an openable bubble canopy, it was designed to observe battlefields and enemy positions while also possessing light strike capabilities. Capable of operating from short, rough landing strips, the Mohawk replaced and outperformed the Cessna L-19 Bird Dog in various roles such as observation, close air support, artillery spotter, photo reconnaissance, among others. Produced between 1959 and 1969, it had several variants including FLIR, SLAR, armed versions, and supply drop capabilities. Despite its distinguished service in Vietnam, the Mohawk was cancelled in 1970.
