Grumman F9F-8 Cougar
thingiverse
The Grumman F9F-8 Cougar, a US Navy fighter, emerged from the Panther design with significant upgrades to bridge performance gaps with Russian fighters. A swept wing and more powerful engine were key enhancements made to meet evolving air combat needs. Developed too late for Korean conflict participation, nearly 2,000 airframes of the Cougar were constructed. The F9F-8 variant was later equipped with Sidewinder missiles and redesignated as the F-9J in 1962. As an advanced trainer, the Cougar remained in service until 1974 under the TF-9J designation. Notably, the Cougar has served as the Blue Angels team's aircraft from 1954 to 1957 following its predecessor, the Panther.
